SPEAKER: THE REV. DR. JOHN A. NUNES
The Rev. John Arthur Nunes, Ph.D., began in 2016 as the ninth president of Concordia College New York, Bronxville, N.Y., an institution of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, which was founded in 1881.
Nunes came to the Bronxville, N.Y., campus from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Ind., where he held the Jochum Chair, an endowed interdepartmental professorship. Previously, he has also served as president and CEO of Lutheran World Relief (2007–2013). Prior to that he was an inner-city pastor in Dallas, Texas, and Detroit, Mich.
Professor Nunes holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. An author of numerous books and articles, Nunes, with Alberto Garcia, recently co-wrote Wittenberg Meets the World: Reimagining the Reformation from the Margins (Eerdmans, 2017).
He is married to Monique, who is the director of International Programs at Martin Luther School in Queens, N.Y. Together, they are the parents of six grown children and an expanding entourage of grandchildren.
