Promise of Safety – Birth Parent Services

Posted:

Three years ago, as a senior in high school, Jessica was devastated to learn that she was pregnant. She had grown up in poverty and spent time in foster care. She never received the kind of support a loving family would have provided.

Jessica was scared to become a teenage single mom, especially without healthy examples of how to parent. She searched for resources because she wanted to give her child advantages that she never had. That’s when she found LFCS.

Thanks to the generous support from so many good people, Jessica’s caseworker was able to reassure her LFCS could help. While pregnant, Jessica was able to get assistance with rent and utilities. She received counseling, a mentor, and tutoring for the ACT. Her caseworker was able to connect her with resources for things she’d need after the baby was born. Jessica was also able to take parenting classes through LFCS which allowed her to meet her goal of creating a safe home for her son.

Today, Jessica is 21-years-old, working full-time at a local daycare and going to college part-time. As a young parent, Jessica has made necessary changes to triumph over her circumstance. She looks forward to finishing her education so s e is able to provide a better life for herself and her son.

“Thanks to everyone who helps support Lutheran Family and Children’s Services,” she said. “Because of them, I know my son and I are going to be OK.”
