Stressed? Don’t Forget to Take Care of YOU

Self-Care in times of high stress is one of the most important (not selfish) things you can do for yourself as well as for those around you.  If you haven’t taken care of your inner self to feel grounded and calm, you won’t be of much value to your family, friends, co-workers, or clients. Below are some ideas to help you stock your self-care toolbox:

  • Listen to your favorite music mix
  • Fill yourself with ____________ and be generous with the overflow
  • Start and end the day in prayer
  • Connect with nature — dig in dirt, walk in grass, toes in water or sand
  • Join a kickball or volleyball league (lots of movement, not standing around playing your position waiting for the ball to come to you)
  • Take the long way home, open the windows, and breathe deeply
  • Take a bubble bath with lavender and candles – essential oils have many therapeutic benefits
  • Get a mani-pedi or a massage
  • Have an attitude of gratitude – look for and be appreciative of one little blessing each day
  • Do more yoga
  • Laugh
  • Set healthy limits/boundaries – it’s OK to say NO sometimes
  • Eat ice cream
  • Give yourself a media-free hour daily
  • Bless others randomly and anonymously – it will make you both smile
