What is Season of Sharing?
At Lutheran Family and Children's Services, there is hope. The Season of Sharing program is designed to make the holidays a little brighter for families in crisis. Season of Sharing has been helping families for more than 30 years. This program is orchestrated by the amazing efforts of many LFCS staff and community members volunteering multiple hours to organize this joyous event.
Who are the families LFCS assist? The families on our Season of Sharing list are individuals and families who are currently receiving LFCS services, are struggling with day to day expenses and would not otherwise be celebrating the holiday.
How can you help? All children and adults have the same hopes and wishes when it comes to Christmas time. Become a Season of Sharing sponsor. With our sponsors help last year, LFCS was able to give more than 1,000 children and adults a holiday to remember. LFCS Season of Sharing sponsors include churches and ministry groups, area businesses, schools, scout groups, community groups, individuals and families who want to help other families. Even if you choose not to become a Season of Sharing sponsor, maybe you would consider buying a few items that will benefit one of our needy families.
What are other ways to help? Donations of cash or gift cards are also appreciated and will be distributed to families that do not have a sponsor. A donation of a single $25 WalMart gift card can help a mother buy diapers, toilet paper and cleaning supplies - items that she would not be able to receive from a food pantry or with government supported food programs.
Become a sponsor, information is available today. For more information about this program call 314-787-5100.
2012 Stories - Families in need of Sponsorship
Jacque is the mother of four teenage boys. Her husband left last year and hasn't been in contact with the family since. Financially, Jacque struggles every day, but her boys are really great at helping their mother and try not to give her too much trouble. This summer, one of Jacque's nephews was kicked out of his house when his mother moved in with her boyfriend. He has come to live with Jacque and how she is raising five boys on her own. She buys five gallons of milk a week and eight loaves of bread! The family eats a lot of peanut butter sandwiches and tuna casseroles. Jacque never complains, but she could really use some help with Christmas this year. She would like her boys to have some gifts but can't afford to shop for anything.
Patty and Craig have been foster parents for the past five years. They have parented 15 children in addition to the two pre-teen girls of their own. In January, three girls (ages 13, 10 and 8) came into their home due to abuse and neglect. It has taken a long time for the girls to trust anyone, but they have bonded with Patty and Craig and are finally starting to thrive. In April, Craig lost his job. He found a job in November, but they are now behind on bills and the transmission went out on his truck and he cannot afford to fix it. The family has a strong faith and believes that the hard times will soon be behind them. Traditionally, their foster children celebrate Christmas with their families, but the three girls have no one to visit this holiday. Patty and Craig would love to help them have a very special Christmas this year and are asking for a little help.
