School Counseling Program

LFCS is excited to now be in the third year of our School-Based Counseling Program.  Funded by the St. Louis County Children's Services Fund - Keeping Kids First, LFCS is providing professional mental health services in 15 Lutheran schools and 6 public school districts.

Children often experience challenges in their families, among peers and in schools that make daily living difficult.  LFCS School Counselors partner with students, families and other school personnel to help students reach their full potential.  A wide variety of issues may impact the school performance and general well-being of a child.  Some of these issues may include:
  • Depression
  • Bullying
  • Anxiety
  • Anger Management
  • Classroom Behavior
  • Divorce
  • Drug and Alcohol Abuse
  • Physical or emotional abuse

LFCS School Counselors provide evidence-based counseling and therapeutic services to help alleviate these issues.  Services include individual and group counseling, classroom guidance lessons, staff and parent presentations, teacher consultations, and crisis intervention.  Our Master's level Counselors serve their schools from 1-5 days per week based on the needs of the individual school and its students.

Early Childhood Services

In response to the latest child development and clinical practice research, starting with the 2012-13 school year LFCS is pleased to offer school based counseling services for children as young as 3 years of age.  Services include assessments and interventions that are evidence-based, developmentally appropriate, flexible and whole-child focused.  Using a strength-based approach, our early childhood specialist is available to address issues such as behavioral concerns, family changes, developmental concerns, depression, anxiety, sensory processing concerns, aggression and sleeping and eating concerns.  The approach is highly collaborative, working with teachers and parents to meet the needs of the child.

Thanks to the St. Louis County Children's Services Fund, all school based services are provided at no cost to students and families attending the following schools:
