Post Adoption Counseling Services

The Goal: This program is to provide counseling services to children who have entered their families through adoption (and foster care) that celebrate strengths and understand the unique challenges that adoptive and foster families face.  This counseling can help children and families explore issues such as:
  • Identity
  • Loss
  • Attachment
  • Culture
  • Past Trauma
  • Past abuse or neglect
  • Fitting in
  • Self-esteem
  • Relationships
  • Family

There is no cost to families (living in St. Louis County) for these services.  Mental health counseling for children and their families is provided by a licensed professional, specially trained in children's therapy (including play therapy, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy).  Children and families can be seen on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis.

Our Partnering Agency:  We partner with Children's Home Society of Missouri (CHS) to offer specialized services to adoptive and foster families.  CHS has been providing adoption and foster care services since 1891.  They offer similar supportive and clinically based services.  This partnership includes referral privileges, professional team training, quality improvement efforts which lead to best practices and innovation.

Other Services:  Other services offered at LFCS or through referral with our partnering agency include:

  • Psychiatry Consultation
  • Psychological Testing and Assessment

To start services call 314-787-5100.  For more information contact Greg at 314-754-2807 or email.

Services are made possible through partial support of the St. Louis County Children's Services Fund "Keeping Kids First."
