Spotlight on Young Friends
Christina Dancy, dubbed "Queen of the Young Friends" has been a dedicated LFCS volunteer, advocate and Young Friend for many years. We appreciate her service and continued commitment to LFCS and wanted you to get to know her.
Age: 32
Job Title: Deposits/Treasury Analyst for U.S. Bancorp Community Development Corporation
What part of town do you live in? I've lived in the West End for 7 years.
What's your favorite thing to do in St. Louis and/or favorite thing about St. Louis? My favorite thing about St. Louis is its history (Arch, Jazz, and People) and that it's a big city but a small town. We are all connected.
How did you become involved with LFCS? I always wanted a way to help foster kids but I didn't have the resources or a lot of time to do it. I attend St. James Lutheran Church so I think that connection led me to LFCS. My brother and I could have been foster kids but a stranger stepped in to help us so I wanted to give that back somehow.
What do you like about LFCS Young Friends? I like that we are all from different backgrounds but we come together for the same purpose and that's to give whatever free time we have to support LFCS and our community.
What do you do in your free time? Volunteer of course. I love reading, bowling and just hanging with my family.
LFCS Young Friends Mission: Provide a fun and engaging way for young people (ages 21-40) to become involved with Lutheran Family & Children's Services through increased networking, volunteer, social and fundraising opportunities.
If you are between the ages of 21 and 40 and would like to make a difference in the lives of children and families in need throughout the St. Louis community, then LFCS Young Friends is just for YOU!!
Young Friends Goals:
- Provide opportunities for Young Friends to network with their peers and business and philanthropic leaders in the community
- Increase community involvement of Young Friends through a varied series of volunteer opportunities in each LFCS program area.
- Engage Young Friends on a social level, providing fun events for the group to get to know each other in a social setting
- Increase awareness in the community about Lutheran Family's valuable programs and services - encourage young people to get connected to the organization
